The Tokyo Skytree (東京スカイツリー) is a digital broadcasting tower and a new landmark of Tokyo. At a height of 634 m, Tokyo Skytree is the tallest tower in the world. It is the core of the Tokyo Skytree Town, near Asakusa.
The sound of the number 634 in Japanese is ‘mu-sa-shi’, which means Musashi District, a historic name of the Tokyo region. A large shopping complex including Solamachi and aquarium is located at the tower’s base just outside of the Tokyo Sky Tree station. Seen from base of the tower, it is so impressive that you can’t help admiring the people and their technology who built this gigantic tower. Modern technologies have been combined with 1,000 year old traditional architecture techniques to build the Tokyo Sky Tree.
Two observation decks which are located at 350 and 450 meters respectively provide magnificent views of Tokyo. You can see the Sumida River, Sensoji Temple, Tokyo Tower, Tokyo Disneyland and even Mt. Fuji on a clear day. It takes only a minute by elevator to go up to the Tempo Deck, the lower, 350-meter-high floor. On the Floor 350, you can step onto the glass floor or transparent glass for a scary look at the ground directly below. You feel like you are floating. After enjoying the panoramic view of Tokyo on Floor 350 and 340, you can go up to Tembo Galleria and ‘air walk’ around a sloped floor. At Sorakara Point, the highest point visitors can reach, the ethereal lightning and walls of mirrors stir the body with feeling of floating. It’s really worth seeing the tower during your stay in Japan. It’s usually very busy with visitors, especially in the afternoon. If you plan to go to Sky Tree, a visit in the morning is recommended.
