This response covers all the tours i did. They were well organised and the guides very helpful and competent, going out of their way to make the tour a success, in some cases,Chico in Hokkaido, well beyond what was their normal role. Some of the travel times were a bit longer than expected, but no time was actually wasted, it was just inevitable given the distances travelled. Accomodation was good.
One comment on the visit to Gotobiki-iwa. The steps there were very rough, steep and slippery. we were carrying overnight packs which we would have had to carry up and down the steps. Both Geoff and I decided it was too risky try this and did not make the assent.
The self guided tour was good but I was bit anxious about it. The instructions were generally clear and to the point. I did get confused when I was using the IC cards for train journeys and the instructions said \"use tickets\" . Also I never really got used to the need for two tickets for one journey when that was the case. An explanation would have helped a bit.
I liked the times when the guides took us to local restaurants. I find these places daunting because they are usually so small and look as though they could not cope with non Japanese speakers.
